Epoxy is not just for garages anymore

Ten years ago, almost every epoxy floor in Mesa lived in a garage or a warehouse. Today, homeowners across the East Valley are bringing the same durable, seamless surfaces inside the house. Polished concrete and tile were once the default for modern Arizona interiors, but a professionally installed epoxy floor offers something neither can: a single continuous surface with no grout lines, no sealing schedule and a look you can customize from soft matte stone to high-gloss liquid metal.

Mesa Epoxy Flooring Pros designs and installs residential epoxy floors for great rooms, kitchens, casitas, guest suites, laundry and mud rooms, home gyms, game rooms, wine rooms and workshops. Each floor is built on the same foundation of careful mechanical preparation we use on commercial projects, then finished with the attention to detail you expect inside your home.

Where residential epoxy works best

Living areas and great rooms

Open-concept homes with concrete slabs are ideal candidates. A metallic or solid-color epoxy floor flows seamlessly from kitchen to living area to patio door, reflecting natural light and making the space feel larger. It is a natural fit for the contemporary desert architecture popular in Las Sendas, Red Mountain and Eastmark.

Casitas and guest suites

Many East Valley properties include a detached casita or converted garage suite. Epoxy gives these spaces a finished, intentional look at a fraction of the effort of tile, and it holds up to the rotating cast of guests, grandkids and pets that casitas tend to host.

Laundry, mud and utility rooms

These hard-working rooms see water, detergent, dirt and pet traffic every day. A seamless floor with an integral cove base turns the whole room into a wipe-down surface, and leaks stay on top of the floor instead of soaking into grout or subfloor.

Home gyms

Epoxy and polyurea floors handle sweat, cleaning sprays and dropped weights far better than carpet or laminate. We typically specify a textured topcoat for grip and recommend rubber platforms where heavy lifts happen. The result is a clean, bright room you actually want to train in.

Workshops, hobby rooms and wine rooms

Woodworkers, artists and hobbyists love the way epoxy shrugs off glue, paint and finishing products. In wine and cellar rooms, a seamless floor is easy to keep spotless and pairs beautifully with stone and wood racking.

Design options for interior floors

Residential floors offer far more design freedom than most people realize. These are the finishes our clients choose most often:

  • Metallic epoxy: pearl and mica pigments worked by hand to create movement, depth and a marble-like or liquid-metal appearance. No two floors are identical.
  • Solid color: a clean, modern, monochrome look in soft grays, warm whites, charcoal or custom tints, in satin or gloss.
  • Fine flake: smaller chip sizes that read as subtle terrazzo-style speckle rather than a garage-floor pattern.
  • Quartz broadcast: colored quartz sand for maximum texture and slip resistance in wet areas.
  • Clear sealed concrete: for homeowners who love the look of their existing slab, we can grind, repair and seal it with a clear high-performance coating.

Sheen is just as important as color. High gloss maximizes reflection and depth; satin and matte finishes soften glare, show fewer footprints and feel more like natural stone. We often recommend satin for family living spaces and gloss for statement rooms.

Protecting your home during installation

Working inside an occupied house requires a different level of care than working in a garage. Before we start, we walk through the project with you, plan the sequence room by room and agree on how you will access the rest of the home. We seal off work areas with plastic containment, cover cabinetry and fixtures, and use HEPA dust extraction on every grinder. Our crews wear shoe covers in finished areas and clean up thoroughly every day.

Interior coatings are low-odor once cured, and we choose low-VOC materials for occupied homes whenever the system allows. We will explain any ventilation needs ahead of time so you can plan around them, especially if you have young children, pets or anyone with sensitivities in the household.

What about my existing flooring?

Epoxy is applied directly to a concrete slab, so existing carpet, tile, vinyl or wood must be removed first. Many homeowners are surprised to learn that the concrete under their old floor is a great base for epoxy once it is ground and repaired. We can coordinate demolition or work after your flooring contractor has removed the old finish. Thin-set mortar, carpet adhesive and mastic residues are all removed by grinding as part of our preparation.

Epoxy is not the right fit for wood subfloors in two-story homes. In those cases we will tell you honestly and suggest alternatives, rather than installing something that will crack.

Pairing interior and exterior: many clients coat their great room in metallic epoxy and the adjoining covered patio in a coordinated, cooler-to-the-touch exterior coating, creating a continuous indoor-outdoor living space.

Comfort, temperature and pets

Epoxy floors feel similar to tile underfoot. In Arizona that is usually an advantage β€” concrete-based floors stay cooler than carpet through the long summer. Area rugs add warmth and sound absorption in living areas and look fantastic against a seamless background. For pet owners, the non-porous surface is a major benefit: accidents, water bowls and muddy paws simply wipe away, and there are no grout lines for odors to settle into. We recommend a satin finish with light texture in homes with large dogs to reduce sliding.

Care and maintenance

Interior epoxy floors are among the easiest surfaces in the home to maintain. A microfiber dust mop handles daily cleaning, and a damp mop with a pH-neutral cleaner takes care of the rest. Use felt pads under furniture legs, avoid dragging heavy appliances, and place mats at exterior doors to catch grit that can dull the surface over time. If a high-traffic area ever loses some luster years down the road, a maintenance recoat can restore the finish without redoing the whole floor.

What drives the cost of an interior floor

Interior projects are quoted individually because no two homes are alike. The main factors are square footage, the condition of the slab after old flooring is removed, the amount of adhesive or thin-set to grind off, crack and joint repair, moisture conditions, the finish you choose and how many rooms or transitions are involved. A solid-color floor in a single laundry room is a very different project from a metallic floor flowing through an entire great room. Your proposal itemizes each part of the work so you can see where your investment goes and adjust the scope if needed.

Transitions and details

Where an epoxy floor meets carpet, wood or tile, we install clean transitions so the edge is durable and trip-free. Around kitchen islands, cabinets and built-ins, we cut and finish neatly so the floor looks original to the home. Stairs, thresholds and sliding-door tracks receive the same care, and we can add a matching cove base in laundry rooms and baths.

Your residential floor, start to finish

Every residential project begins with a free in-home consultation. We measure, test the slab for moisture, look at transitions to other flooring, and talk through how you use each room. You will see physical samples of metallic, solid and flake finishes and receive a detailed written proposal. On install days our crew follows the same grind, repair, coat and topcoat sequence we use everywhere, adapted for an occupied home. When we finish, we walk the floor with you, review cure times and leave written care instructions.

We install residential floors throughout Mesa, Gilbert, Chandler, Queen Creek, Scottsdale and the surrounding East Valley.

Residential FAQ

Interior epoxy questions

Can epoxy go over tile?

We do not recommend it. Grout lines and tile movement eventually telegraph through. Removing tile and coating the slab directly gives a far better result.

Is epoxy flooring safe inside a home?

Fully cured epoxy is inert and widely used in homes, schools and hospitals. We use low-VOC materials where possible and explain ventilation needs during install.

Will it scratch?

Epoxy is very hard, but sand and grit can cause fine surface scratches over time, just like any floor. Mats, felt pads and regular dust-mopping keep it looking new.

How long until I can move furniture back?

Light foot traffic is usually fine within a day. We typically recommend waiting a few days before moving furniture back, and longer for very heavy items.
